Fantasy sports bill clears Iowa Senate panel

Iowans could  win cash and other prizes while playing fantasy sports under Senate Study Bill 3108, which was approved Wednesday by a three-member Iowa Senate subcommittee.

The proposal now heads to the Iowa Senate State Government Committee, which is chaired by Sen. Jeff Danielson, D-Cedar Falls, who is supporting the legislation.

John Cacciatore, a lobbyist for the Fantasy Sports Trade Association, based in Madison, Wis., said the trade group wants Iowa legislators to revise state law to clarify that fantasy sports is a game of skill and is not gambling.
