Google Comes to Metro to help Small Businesses Get Online

Google hosted a free workshop in Council Bluffs to help small businesses get online. Iowa State Senator Dan Dawson provided keynote remarks, and community organizations partnered on the event to help small businesses connect with customers and expand the local economy in the Council Bluffs/Omaha area.

Local business owners gathered at Council Bluffs’ Mid-America Center for a hands-on workshop to get on Google Search and Maps for free and promote their business with a free website and advertising. Four in five consumers use search engines to find information about local businesses, but 47% of US small businesses don’t have a website and only 37% have claimed or updated their business information on a search engine.

“Google wants to help small businesses expand their reach online and support them as they continue to grow and shape the economy here in Council Bluffs,” said Emily Harris, Program Manager Small Business Outreach. “This program makes it fast, easy and free for businesses to get online.”

Local businesses keep our communities strong. Small businesses that take full advantage of the Internet are three times more likely to create new jobs and experience revenue growth that’s nearly four times as high as the previous year.

"Ensuring businesses and employees have the necessary tools to grow their business and succeed in their careers is critically important for Iowa's economy," said Iowa State Senator Dan Dawson. " The Internet plays an integral role in the success of small businesses. Google's Get Your Business Online is a unique opportunity for companies to create and enhance their online presence to help their business thrive."
