Iowa's Smoke Free Air Act

We worked with our clients to develop a strategy, build legislative support and navigate the legislative process to pass the Smoke Free Air Act.  PolicyWorks coordinated a legislative effort to educate lawmakers and secure their support to approve this landmark legislation.  Through many twists and turns inside the legislative process, the result was a victory for smoke free workplaces, restaurants and other public areas.

 

In the first couple years of the new law, there were doubters and rumbles of repeal.  Working in concert with Selzer & Co., we developed objective data to show that, in a few short years after implementation, the law had increased the quality of life in Iowa. The data also showed voters strongly supported the law and would strongly resist efforts to weaken or repeal it. We echoed these findings with press conferences and an earned media blitz.
