Learn About John Cacciatore: Senior Vice President

Background

John Cacciatore is the Senior VP of PolicyWorks. He provides strategic counsel for clients in government affairs, public affairs and grassroots advocacy. He is also involved in all aspects of business development. John has spent the last 35 years as a leader in public policy and political campaigns. He has worked in the political trenches, developed and implemented public policy and provided strategic counsel to state and federal government policymakers.


Getting Started in Politics

John knew in college that he wanted to pursue a career in politics and government. Prior to joining PolicyWorks Iowa, John served as the Director of the State of Iowa’s Federal Relations Office in Washington, D.C. Other notable positions include Chief of Staff, Policy Director and Campaign Manager for Gov. Tom Vilsack; the top aide for then-Iowa Senate Presidents Leonard Boswell and Mike Gronstal; Finance Director for the Iowa Democratic Party; and door-to-door canvass manager for Tom Harkin’s initial campaign for the U.S. Senate. In 2017, John was recognized as an Honorary Pioneer Lawmaker at the Capitol for his years of service to the state.


Inspirations

To many people, the state and federal government can seem daunting. John finds great fulfillment in his career when he is able to help clients achieve their goals by helping them navigate the government's lay of the land.


Advice For Someone Starting Their First Job

John's advice for someone who is starting their first job is to, "listen attentively to those around you and in leadership positions. Also, never be afraid to ask questions."
